Twisty Tweezers

New Tool! $8.95

If you use tweezers to pull stringers and make twisties, the new Twisty Tweezers is a must have tool. We took 6½" locking tweezers and reshaped the tip by modifying the grind and the angle of the points. The resulting tool reaches into the end of the molten glass with a minimal amount of distortion and a minimal amount of glass wasted with the grip. All this without the points sticking. The spring loaded tweezers with their intercepting points hold firm and allow you to rotate them for making twisties without releasing the glass. You can even leave the glass in the grip of the tweezers as an application tool.

Greedy Grabbers

New Tool! $14.95

Like the Twisty Tweezers above, the Greedy Grabbers came out of the recent class taught by Hayley Tsang here at Arrow Springs. Both were tested, approved and named by Hayley and the students. The Greedy Grabbers are similar to our larger Uncle Al Rod Grabbers in their holding action. Instead of large hemostats, the Greedy Grabbers are made with small scale locking tweezers. With a delicate, yet firm hold, these 4¾" grabbers have an incredible range, from 1mm stringers to 7mm rods.

Amazing JC Enamel & Glass Sifters
The JC Metal Sifters and JC Line & Dot Applicators. These tools dispense frit, powdered glass and enamels by shaking, tapping, or for the greatest control, by moving the Coil Actuator. It is incredibly easy to use. With just one hand, you hold the Sifter or Applicator and move the Coil Actuator forward and backward with either your finger or thumb. You easily control the volume of glass or enamel, from a gentle sprinkle to a heavy flow, by the pressure applied and the speed you move the Coil Actuator. The standard screen mesh size for the sifters is 60. This gives good flow, yet also gives you great control for shading. A 60 mesh screen is generally preferred for its ability for shading as well as its ability to efficiently cover a small item, such as a bead, quickly. We also offer all the Sifters in a 40 mesh screen. You may be familiar with this size, as that is what is in the red plastic bodied sifters. Enamellists also like the 40 mesh screen for its ability to cover a large area quickly and thoroughly.
Two new larger sizes (Not pictured). Sifters size chart.

Oxygen Tanks Do you live near Arrow Springs or in the Sacramento area? We use oxygen tanks in our classroom only because thirteen concentrator/generators would be too many for the area. Because we go through a lot of bottles, we get a good price in our area of the country. Oxygen is treated like a commodity; its price is what the market will pay in a geographic area. To help out with the high local costs welding stores charge, we pass on our discount to you and only charge what it costs us, $24.00 per KH (282 cubic feet) size tank, when you come into Arrow Springs. If you go directly to the company we buy our oxygen from and tell them you are with Arrow Springs, you will get our price. We have set up a cash account that lets you purchase under our name. At the time of this posting, our price from the oxygen supplier is $15.36 plus $3.95 for pick up document fee, for a total of $19.31. Sales tax is extra. It is a little more expensive at our location, because we have to add in the delivery fee and a higher document fee charged on delivered tanks.
The company is Barnes Welding/Fresno Oxygen. Phone: 1(916) 456-2478. Location: 4218 Power Inn Road, Sacramento, CA 95826. This is about 1½ miles from Highway 50 and only a few miles from downtown. For reference, Howe Avenue is on the opposite side of the highway.
As with all oxygen tanks, you can only exchange tanks that are marked with the company's name or no company name, unless you own the tank. You will never get your old tank back, as qualifying tanks for exchange are mixed into the pool of tanks. If you own a tank with a different company name on it, you can sign a simple document saying so and then exchange the tank. You can rent, lease or purchase a tank from Barnes. We do not rent or lease tanks, but we do sell them for less than Barnes. For additional information about exchanging tanks, please call Barnes at the phone number above or Arrow Springs staff.
Oxygen Concentrator/Generator Usage Instructions We receive a lot of requests for information about using oxygen concentrator/generators. Click here for a two page PDF instruction sheet.
Did you Know? What is the difference between a torch and a burner? A torch is held in the hand (think of the Statue of Liberty) and a burner sits on a table (think of a Bunsen Burner in high school chemistry class). Because so many people call the burners torches in our industry, we usually call them torches as well to keep head scratching to a minimum. Have you ever heard someone say what a great torch a Minor Burner is? So what is the difference between lampworking and flameworking? For that matter, what about torchworking? Might as well add burnerworking to the list? Did you notice all these terms are a single word? Semantics, got to love it. Brought to you by the Department of Redundancy Department.
