About the saws: Order saw and blade as separate items, except as noted above. Used for cutting thin slices of murrini, cutting fused glass into small pieces and many more applications. The 4" to 5" saw has a table size of 9" x 6¼". The 6" saw has a table size of 15" x 9". The blade cover can be raised or removed and the front splash guard can also be removed, if necessary to, accommodate larger pieces. The distance from the left side of the blade to the motor housing is 3" on the 4" to 5" saw and 5¼" on the 6" saw. The right hand side of the blade is totally unobstructed on both saws. The approximate blade height above the cutting table is 1" with a 4" blade, 1½" with the 5" blade and 2" with the 6" blade. The diamond blade runs through a water reservoir. No pump is needed. 400 to 3400 RPM variable speed, 1/4 HP motor with 5/8" arbor. 120 volts.
About the blades: The blades listed above are listed by their diameter and cutting kerf, in inches. The kerf is the width of cut a saw blade makes. Extremely thin blades, such as the Pro-Slicer 4" X .007 and 6" X .009 are very delicate and will bend and buckle easily, ruining it, even with an experienced hand. We recommend using the thicker blades. The higher quality Pro-Slicer diamond blades cut faster and last longer than the Economy blades. The MK sintered blades are stiffer, cut quickly and last the longest by far, because their diamonds are impregnated throughout the cutting edge. As the blade wears down, more diamonds are exposed.
About the Vise Assembly: The optional Vise Assembly is an adjustable guide that allows for accurate precision cuts. Wing nuts are tightened to clamp the work piece securely in place. You advance the carriage slowly to feed material evenly into the blade. The Vise Assembly is designed to fit the 6" saw only and installs easily.
Note: Always run thin blades at higher speeds and do not jam glass into them to help prevent blade buckling. A little trick for cutting tubes and rods. Cut partially into the glass, all the way around, before cutting through the center. This can prevent the glass from breaking out on the back side of the cut before the cut is finished.
