Picture shows a typical lapidary setup. Our system actually contains a different selection of wheels, as described below, which is better suited to glass needs.

We have assembled a complete diamond flat lap grinding system tailored to the glass artist. It is ideal for grinding, faceting and beveling. It comes complete with everything you need to take unfinished glass through all the steps right to final polishing. It will grind any flat or convex surface. The system comes with 8" disks and has a 2¾" work space between the hub and the edge of the disk.

Each system contains the following:
HITECH Diamond Products Machine:
Variable speed machine with coolant reservoir and splash shield. 115 volt.

100 Mesh Diamond Plated Grinding Disk: First grinding disk. Used when you need to remove large quantities of glass quickly and bring the glass item into rough shape.

260 Mesh Diamond Plated Grinding Disk: First or second grinding disk. Used to smooth over grinding marks from the previous disk, if it was used, or remove smaller quantities of glass and bring the glass item to its final or near final shape. This can sometimes be the final disk if the glass item is to be fire polished.

600 Mesh Diamond Plated Grinding Disk: Final grinding disk. Used to smooth over grinding marks from the previous disk and refines the final shape, preparing it for the following polishing steps. This is ideally the final disk if the glass item is to be fire polished.

600 Mesh Diamond Smoothing Disk: Used for pre-polishing and yields a satin finish. Diamonds are embedded in the surface of a soft disk which makes the 600 mesh diamonds perform like a 2000 mesh diamond plated disk. Unlike a 2000 mesh plated disk, most loose debris that finds its way onto the disk while you are pre-polishing, will pass between the glass and the smoothing disk without leaving a deep scratch.

Felt Polishing Disk: The final disk. Apply cerium oxide (supplied) mixed with three parts water to the felt disk to achieve a fully polished surface.
